The pumpkin-seed-oil group experienced a substantially greater increase in hair count than the placebo group, with the study reporting a mean increase of about 40% compared with about 10% in the placebo group.

That does not mean eating pumpkin seeds produces a 40% increase in hair.

The study used pumpkin seed oil, not whole pumpkin seeds, and it was relatively small and short-term. Still, it provides something important that many “superfood” hair claims don't have: human clinical evidence involving a pumpkin-seed-derived product and hair growth.

Pumpkin seeds also provide protein and other micronutrients, making them useful as part of an overall nutrient-dense diet.
